Range verification for eye proton therapy

Proton therapy is an ideal approach for treating tumours of the eye, with proton therapy of uveal melanoma, the most common ocular tumour, achieving a local control rate of about 95%. To optimize target localization and reduce set-up errors, metal fiducial markers are surgically implanted on the back of the eye before treatment, and then imaged to achieve precise patient alignment.
